The NM Board of Nursing (NMBON) has received reports from Nurses of calls from someone who claimed to be an agent with the NMBON. The caller provided fake credentials and told the Nurse that he/she was under investigation by the Board, the DEA, and the FBI for illegal drug trafficking. The caller quoted “1985 Drug Trafficking Law” and the “Privacy Act” made threats of license suspension and stated to the licensee they must pay a fine to reinstate the License. Calls may be routed to appear on caller ID to be from the NMBON office (505-841-8340). The NMBON does not make calls such as that described above.
If you receive one of these calls the DEA asks anyone who receives a call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official asking for money to refuse the demand and report the threat using the online form or by calling 877/792-2873. Reporting these calls will assist DEA in investigating and stopping this activity.
