The Medication Aide Advisory Committee (MAAC) was created by the Board under the statutory authority of §61-3-10.M NMSA 1978 to assist the Board in its duty to monitor and regulate the practice of certified medication aides (CMAs) and compliance of Board-approved CMA training programs in New Mexico, in accordance with 16.12.5 NMAC. The Board must appoint a minimum of a five-member voluntary advisory committee which shall be composed of at least three registered nurses (16.12.5.18 NMAC). Committee members may be reimbursed as provided in the Per Diem and Mileage Act [10-8-1 through 10-8-8 NMSA 1978].
Member qualifications and responsibilities (Board of Nursing Advisory Committee Policy)
- Each committee member must hold a current New Mexico registered nurse license, licensed practical nurse license or a current medication aide certificate.
- The committee shall include one member not employed by a participating agency.
- There shall be no more than one representative from any one agency serving on the advisory committee at any one time.
- The advisory committee shall review applications for initial approval of Medication Aide Education Programs, evaluations of programs, and changes in approved programs.
- The committee shall make recommendations to the Board and shall provide consultation to programs as requested or as directed by the Board.
- Members of the committee shall serve as site visitors to medication aide programs for approval, consultation and evaluation.
